You need to make sure you have the j-bolt assembly done before you start mixing the concrete... so you might as well do it now. First remove all but one nut on each j-bolt. Then run the last nut all the way done and tighten. Now place each j-bolt in the plate run another nut down and hand tighten... point all j-bolts to the center and finish tightening. Set the assembly aside and start measuring and marking in preparation to dig. On this particular job I had three wires to look out for. Electric, cable and an invisible fence wire which in this case was impossible to avoid and I cut it. I started digging carefully to find the cable since they are generally only a couple inches down. As you can see I got lucky and found the cable wire and pulled it up to be reburied later by the cable company. Now, outline the digging area with your spud bar then use your shovel to skim the grass like a piece of sod and continue to dig slowly and parallel to the driveway until you locate the electric. The real luck for me in this case was the electric wire was only a few inches down and I was also able to locate it quickly. When you know there are wires below... ALWAYS... dig slowly and parallel to the driveway to avoid shearing the wires as you dig. After the wires are located... you can start digging faster. I use the spud bar to dig by loosening the dirt and a spade ...
