Hoops For Heart Heath Foundation Ryan Gomes Presentation Providence College

This is a video that played during a timeout at the Providence College vs. Villanova University Men's Basketball game on February 4, 2009 in which 2 Automated External Defibrillators were donated to the John Hope Settlement House in Providence, RI by the Hoops for Heart Health Foundation along with Coast 2 Coast Medical Supply Inc. Hoops for Heart Health Hoops for Heart Health is a not-for-profit organization that was started to address the problem of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in high school, college and professional sports. With the help of college basketball coaches and cardiologists throughout the country, the mission is to first educate student-athletes about Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and then to support testing and the placement of medical devices, such as Portable Defibrillators, in gymnasiums and athletic fields around the country. Eventually the goal is to also provide support for families, teammates, classmates and coaches after an athlete has died from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. "I started Hoops For Heart Health to bring together the basketball community in order to raise awareness to the growing problem of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in student athletes," said Gomes. "If we can save just one life, it makes all of our efforts worthwhile."
